Designing for Via Gelato, an artisan gelato company.

During my 5 years working at Via Gelato, I have had the opportunity to dip my hands in collaborating with a public relations and a social media content team to design a multitude of flavor tags, yelp campaign illustrations, and product illustrations in order to highlight the artistry of our products to our customers to keep them coming back for more.

Topping Project

From concept and sketching

My role as a designer for this project was to create illustrations for customers to look at and be incentivized to get toppings on their gelato while they were waiting in line. I really liked the idea of laying out all of our toppings on a sheet to really appeal to the “variety” aspect of toppings.

A problem we ran into with this sketch was that the illustrations were too rigid, the typeface used did not feel as personable as we would have liked, especially since they all sat at the same baseline. So we made the decision to do handwritten descriptions for each of the toppings.

The second pain-point we ran into with this sketch was that the descriptions of the toppings weren’t matching the appeal to the customer, rather it just felt more of like an infographic rather than a suggestion from a friend, which was the targeted feeling. So, we made the decision to include a first person narrative for the description of each of the toppings, so that the customers feel like they were talking to a friend.

To the final product

We ran into some obstacles of how we wanted to lay this out along with keeping the in-brand identity of personable and relatable to younger generations. In the end, the idea of having a home adventure as a concept where choosing your gelato flavors and good toppings to pair them well with would make customers feel like they’re on an adventure of self care and indulgence, rather than feeling like they were there just to purchase a product.

Yelp Elite Flight Campaign

I collaborated with our social media content team to illustrate mini wallet-sized passports for yelp elitists to obtain samples of some of our flavors to take a “trip to all of our different flavors” to discover new and delicious varieties.

Having the fill-in-the-blank option was an interactive type of incentive used so that customers would have the feeling of playing a game, and thus more excited about the flavors they would get.
